An Almost Finalized Design

We are getting close to having a finalized floor plan, yeah!  It has been really tough pouring over plans; how do we cram everything we want into our box?  We had a pretty extensive list of things that we wanted in our home and somehow we have managed to get it all into a relatively small footprint.  By relatively small I mean approximately 2000 sq ft.  This sounds big to me, but we do have a family of 6 after all.

Firstly, we wanted the most efficient shape possible so that means a rectangular box.  Every jut out or indent into that box takes away from the efficiency so we wanted to avoid that.  Other criteria that we had were 3 bedrooms up with the kid’s bedroom being large as they are going to have to share, an ensuite bath off the master bedroom, open concept living area, island or peninsula in the kitchen, pantry, extra bedroom on the main level (used as a playroom now but could be a den, office, bedroom etc. in the future), and large entry way.

So, without further adieu here is what we have so far.  There will still be a few small changes take place (remove the desk area in the hallway on the second floor and perhaps change the entry way a little) but for the most part this is it!

This is a great floor plan! It has everything you were looking for and has no wasted space! Can’t wait to see it built!

I am finding this super interesting. It looks like a great plan; I can’t wait to see how the process goes. We were hoping to sell this spring and move but I think we’ve more or less decided to stay in our house one more year, hopefully purchase land this summer, and then plan to build next summer. It’s great to see someone follow a similar path to the one we’d like to take, and I’m sure I’ll get lots of great ideas and advice by following your blog!
